September 6, 2006 | Recording the spread of God's fire in the "Laguna" | Volume 5, Issue 1 |
Summer has come and gone since we last wrote, and God has been as faithful as ever, so there's a lot to share! Praise be to God for His wonderful works!
Though there's much more that we'd like to share, in this newsletter we just wanted to share two things: that we have posted some photo albums on our web page, and an incredible personal testimony from Larry's family.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and we've finally taken that to heart! :) Our hope is that the photos we've published, along with the comments to explain who the people are and what's happening, will help you to make a more personal connection with the people and the ministry here in the Laguna.
The photo albums we've published are basically from May and June of this year. We'll be publishing more photos (of the missions group from Spring and the new Childrens Feeding Program) very soon, so be looking for an email from us to let you know when those photos are available. Oh, and by the way, if anybody from Spring has good photos from your trip, feel free to send them to us because we don't have very many! :)
The following photo albums are now available on our webpage at www.LagunaOnFire.org (just click on the links to go directly to the albums):

Larry was very blessed personally by what God did in the life of his mom. His parents, who were missionaries to Papua New Guinea (a large island close to Australia) for more than 20 years, come back to the U.S. where his dad served as a pastor in the Lutheran Church, and are now retired. But it seems clear that God still has a purpose for them!
Larry's mom, Virginia Flathmann, has always been very strong and healthy, so it was very difficult for her when she started to experience weakness, dizzyness, and shortness of breath this past month. When she started to experience chest pain, Larry's brother-in-law, an EMT, said she had to go to the emergency room whether she wanted to or not, because she was showing all the warning signs of a heart attack. Then she had a stress test done, which showed some irregularities, meaning there was something wrong, and they wanted to do a heart catheter, but Larry's mom wasn't willing. Then, last Wednesday when she had another appointment her doctor said she had to have a heart catheter done ASAP because the situation was now really urgent. So they scheduled the operation for Friday. On Thursday, she was having so much heart pain that she had to take 7 nitroglycerins, because taking one would calm the pain for a while, but it would come back and she had to keep taking more. So on Friday we were pretty much expecting to receive nothing but bad news from the results of the heart catheter. But a good friend of Virginia's, a strong woman of God named Peggy, prayed for her just before she went in to have the catheter done, and the heart pain stopped. Then, to everyone's surprise, especially the doctors, the catheter showed absolutely nothing wrong with her heart! The doctors were so confused that they ordered all sorts of other tests to see if something else could have been causing the chest pain, but found nothing! God had healed her!
Praise God with us for His miraculous healing of Larry's mom! And pray also that God would continue to use Larry's parents as they, though retired, seek God for revival in their town of Hallettsville, Texas.
