Outpatient Cancer Ministry

We are raising funds to support a new ministry started as part of the women’s shelter Casa Arca (“Casa de Restauracion el Arca” to be exact).

Why?

As we share in our blog, our friend Juan Jose started this ministry because he had compassion on patients coming to the public hospital for treatment from rural communities. The public healthcare system here in Mexico only provides specialized care like radiation treatments through regional hospitals. So patients living in rural communities (generally the poorest of the poor) have to travel at their own expense and cover their food and lodging for the duration of the treatments, which can be several weeks or more. What this means in reality is that many patients end up sleeping in the street outside the hospital, which is just wrong in so many ways.

What?

The Outpatient Cancer Ministry works in coordination with social workers from the hospital to help patients with the greatest need. It aims to provide a decent and safe place to stay, healthy food, and help with transportation back and forth to the hospital. And it seeks to share the love and hope found only in Jesus with these precious people.
